Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 10

Today we lost one of the most amazing women in motorsports, Maria de Villota. I think we can all agree that she was inspiring before and especially after her crash which may or may not have played a role in her untimely demise. As you have probably seen in the movies, there is a lie that drivers tell themselves "death is something that happens to other people". Whether it's Katherine Legge's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or Simona de Silvestro's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and then the next year her !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! -worst case scenario for a racecar driver... women are more than up to the task of being racers. In fact, judging by those crashes, which frighteningly remind me of Dario and Dan Wheldon's, I'd say they might be better suited. None of those are ones I understand how they walked away from.

But while educating you on amazing women who shrug off death is great, I really need to point out an up and comer: Jessi Combs. Now those of you who know here from Mythbusters or other cable shows might dismiss here as a Leigh Diffey talking head but let me remind that number ONE: she has these guns:

Kinja'd!!!

which, I'm sorry but I don't care what sex you are, those are the GUNS OF RESPECT. Do I even lift bro? Yes, yes I do. And I would kill for those. Or to even touch them. Or maybe even smell them. Preferably her left armpit though because she has a big-ass nautical star tattooed there, in what I can absolutely verify as being a horribly painful place to get inked.

Number TWO: And from her her site: "In a widely publicized accident in 2007, while working on Xtreme 4x4, Jessi was folded in two by a large piece of machinery, burst fracturing her spine's L3. The accident should have left her wheelchair bound; but instead, after surgery, bed rest, therapy, eight months and a little help from God, Jessi was granted full medical release." Anyone want to weigh in here on a burst fracture on your spine?..... truly hope no one can. Hell, I'm not even going to link the wikipedia description. Not pleasant. Just let those three words ring out... Burst.. Spinal Fracture....

Ok enough depression session, this isn't a Cursive fanboy album review. We're here (or you're hopefully still reading) about how Jessi is the new Jalopnik badass (or should be, honestly, I think Katherine Legge or Simona should be but my opinion is usually regarded somewhere below a gas station corn dog) - and it's because she did this. And again, I quote from her because you don't fucking paraphrase the female equivalent of Ernest Hemmingway, you quote:

I am honored to announce to all of you that yesterday, October 9, 2013, I drove the North American Eagle Landspeed car 371 mph and a second pass at 440.7 mph within the required 1 hour turn around time frame, for a measured mile average of 392.154 mph, breaking the 308 mph landspeed record held by Lee Breedlove since 1965. Thank you to the NAE team for their confidence in me and my family and friends for their support, I am forever grateful. I also would like to thank all of the women who have gone before me...whether they succeeded or not...for reaching to the stars and pushing the boundaries of speed and sanity. It isn't the destination but the journey. Those who set records before me paved the way for me to break this one and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to follow in their footsteps. One promise I will make to you... I will go faster...

Godspeed Jessi. And I don't even believe in a god.

ps. check out her guns and her smile. again. do it again. do i even have to tell you that!?! she has sweat glands that can probably trash you in a tough mudder.

Jesus Christ, Jessi Combs is more jacked than I am!

I always enjoyed watching her on Xtreme 4x4. Unlike big tit powerblock host, Jessi actually sounded like she knew what she was talking about, and I'm assuming its because she did know what she was talking about.

I do remember seeing her on mythbusters for a bit to when Kari was pregnant

FTR: "big tit powerblock host" has me nearly pissing my pants (I should stop drinking PBR and goto bed) because I know exactly who you mean but can't remember her name. I was so glad they pulled Jessi in to sub on Mythbusters, as hot as funny and as kooky, and, well ok as hot again as Kari is, I would dump her in a second for Jessi. Read Jessi's bio on her site - she's down to earth as anyone. Oh, and while I hate to be the "watch this car crash footage" person, SERIOUSLY - watch the Katherine Legge clip. Her response afterwards is stunningly awesome ("my bits are ok") and the last 15 seconds is the commentator falling over his words trying to fathom how she'd get back in the car to race if there was one left. Danica who? NO. Katherine.

I think her face is usually obscured by 56lbs of petroleum based facial products, otherwise known as "make up"

Courtney Hansen was born on October 2, 1974 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , to Gerald John “Jerry” and Constance (Walker) Hansen. Her father is a winner of 27 SCCA national racing championships. From 1973-2006 her family owned Brainerd International Raceway and she grew up in Orono, Minnesota , and spent lots of time around the pits and garages at racing tracks. As a result, she is an automobile enthusiast, and much of her work to date has revolved around automobiles. - from Wikipedia

I didn’t realize she had a background in this stuff.
